OUR NEED FOR JESUS

As fallen human beings we must see our need for someone to save us.  God created us in his image, perfect and without sin.  But Satan came and tempted Adam and Eve in the garden and convinced them to eat the forbidden fruit.  Through their disobedience, sin entered the world.  And whether we like it or not, sin has been passed down to us.  Romans 5:12 says, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned.”  Adam and Eve’s sin has been passed down to us.  Not only do we inherit sin, but we also choose sin for ourselves.  No matter how good we think we are, we all have a sinful nature inside of us that we like to please.  There are times when we choose our way over God’s way.  Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  There has only been one man who is without sin, and his name is Jesus.  We all have to admit we have sin in our lives. 

If we have all sinned, we need a way to be made perfect again in God’s sight because God is Holy, and he can have nothing to do with sin.  John 14:6 says, “Jesus answered, I am the way, and the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  There is no other way to receive salvation than to accept Jesus Christ as Lord of your life.  He is the only way to the Father (heaven).  People try many different ways to make themselves acceptable in God’s sight.  Some believe if they go to church or attend youth group they can be saved from their sin.  Others think if I do more good things than I do bad things, I will be saved.  But we know that it is nothing we do that saves us.  It is only by what Jesus has done for us on the cross.  If we sin once, we deserve death.  How many times did Adam & Eve sin before death came into the world?  It only took one sin.  If we sin once, spiritual death is the result.  Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Wages is something we earn.  We earn death!  But a gift is something that is given to us free of charge.  Eternal life is given to us free of charge through our savior Jesus Christ.

Will you receive the gift that God wants to give you?  He desires to have you by his side for eternity.  He loves us so much that he was willing to empty himself of his glory, and come down and die upon the cross.  He did all of that to restore the fellowship He had with man.  Surrender your life to him today.  Repent of your sins, and trust him as your savior.
